How Can I Be Saved?

This is the most important question any person can ask. The answer centers around the man Jesus Christ. Savation comes through a relationship with him alone. Jesus himself said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except by me." (John 14:6). Jesus even asked his disciples in Matthew 16:15, "Who do you say that I am?" All of our eternity depends on how we answer this question, "Who is Jesus?"

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born into the world through a woman named Mary. Jesus is fully human and yet fully God. He came into this world as an infant, grew and matured as a child, and carried out his ministry as an adult. Jesus lived a perfect life and never sinned against his Father God. Jesus performed many miracles throughout his lifetime as part of his ministry, using them as a means to point others to the kingdom of God. He came to this world that we might have eternal life in Him. Ultimately, Jesus died the death of a criminal, being hung upon a cross by Roman soldiers. Jesus gave up his life upon that cross, was buried in a tomb; yet three days later God raised him from the dead! All of this appeared and took place in the public eye and was witnessed by those who lived during Jesus' lifetime. Now Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for those who belong to him.

Yet, although the cross served as the means of death for Jesus, it serves as the means of life for us. When Jesus went to the cross to be crucified, he went there carrying the weight of all the sins of the world. Even though Jesus was innocent of all sin, he bore our sins and our mistakes even unto death. God's wrath was poured out upon Jesus for those sins. He stood judged and condemned by God, not for any sin which he committed, but for the sins which we have committed. Jesus has paid the price for our sins. "The wages of sin is death..." (Rm 6:23), and Jesus suffered our death that we might have life.

Having understood and believed this great doctrine commonly called, substitutionary atonement, we are invited to be saved. Jesus is an inviting Savior and Lord, wishing for all to be saved and none to perish. Yet we must repent of our sins and give our lives to him as Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9 tells us that, "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believes in his heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." I invite you to respond to such a great salvation. I invite you to believe this verse, repent of your sins, make Jesus Lord of your life and be saved and reconciled to God. We at Goreville First Baptist Church would love to speak with you about this great salvational message. John 3:16 tells us that, "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." Feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions or need prayer in any form. We would love to speak with you about this decision. Blessings.

In Christ,
